Second Machine Order for Austrian Company

Buntmetall Amstetten GmbH is a leading producer of semi-finished and finished products made of copper and copper alloys in Austria and is part of the German Wieland Werke AG group.

The products made at Buntmetall Amstetten are used as pre-material or components for many applications. For further information visit: www.austria-buntmetall.at

The above-mentioned company purchased a Conform™ 550i machine from BWE in 2007 and this was installed and commissioned at the beginning of 2008.

The machine has since been in full production on two shifts continuously extruding copper bus bar and other complex profiles from a single 20mm diameter copper rod.

In September 2008, BWE managed to secure a second machine order from this customer. Buntmetall Amstetten purchased a Conform™ S315i machine for their smaller product range and this is due to be installed and commissioned later this year.

Show Success for New Conform™ S315i

BWE Ltd used the recent Wire 2008 Exhibition in Dusseldorf to launch their new ‘S' range of Conform™ continuous extrusion machines with immediate success. BWE exhibited their Conform™ S315i model with Induction Heated Tooling System and this was sold to SMETA Donetski, Ukraine. Initially, SMETA intend to extrude round aluminium tubes (refrigeration tubes) from 9.5mm diameter aluminium rod. Additional tooling has been ordered for other products.

The ‘S' range of machines will be manufactured and assembled in China at much reduced prices. To maintain UK quality standards, assembly will be under supervision of BWE UK specialists and all machines will be subject to final inspection and CE certification in the UK. Standard design features a planetary gearbox to ensure long bearing life. Some equipment such as heat exchangers and hydraulic pumps will be of European origin.

Initially, BWE will begin to offer and supply their popular 315 model for small copper and aluminium applications. Other machines in the BWE range will follow in the future. BWE's new and unique developments such as the very successful ‘Induction Heated Tooling System' will be available as options. Ancillary items that complete the line can be supplied by the customer or purchased as an option from BWE.

The S315 is the perfect machine for applications such as: Copper and Aluminium Rectangular Wire (Magnet Wire) and sections; Solid Aluminium Conductor (SAC); Aluminium Round and Multivoid Tubes (Refrigeration, Heat Exchanger, Air-conditioner Tube). Other applications and alloys may be possible upon request.

Machine No. 5 for LS Cable - South Korea

A BWE Conform™ 350i machine is now installed, commissioned and in production at LS Cable in South Korea. The new machine was ordered in May 2005 and was on site and in production before the end of the year. LS Cable already had two Conklad™ 350 machines for cladding steel wire with aluminium (AS Wire) and one of each Conform 315 & 350 extruding Micro-Multivoid Tubes.

Micro-Multivoid Tubes are used in heat exchangers for automotive air-conditioning systems. With air-conditioning becoming standard in more and more cars, vans and trucks worldwide, the demand for multivoid tubes is increasing. Having two machines already at full capacity, LS Cable required another line to meet demand.
Machine No. 5 is a Conform 350i incorporating the new Induction Heated Tooling technology. This dramatically reduces pre-heat times and effortlessly reaches the higher temperatures needed to avoid mandrel damage during start-up. Very accurate temperature control with no hysteresis and extremely stable conditions is achieved via a purpose designed PLC control system (very important for product quality). An even and constant temperature distribution across the tooling area reduces mechanical stress and enhances tooling life. LS Cable are already experiencing significant benefits from the reduced downtime and lower running costs.

LS Cable during BWE Conform™ Training Course

Since buying their first machine from BWE more than 20 years ago (still in production today), LS Cable and BWE have maintained a close relationship. BWE have kept LS Cable updated with all new developments including the most significant one to date: Induction Heated Tooling.

BWE has production experience of a wide range of multivoid sizes (10mm - 105mm width), hole shapes (round, square, triangular, with internal fins etc) and alloys (1000 series, 3000 series, special alloys). Other applications, such as Round Alloy Tubes (Refrigeration) and Zinc Cladding of Steel Tubes (Subsea Umbilical) are all possible on the range of BWE Conform™ / Conklad™ continuous extrusion machines.

New Conform™ 550i Machine Extruding Large Copper Bus Bar in China

A BWE Conform™ 550i machine is now installed, commissioned and in production at Jiang Yin Electrical Alloy Co. Ltd in the Jiangsu province of China.

The end-user is extruding various sizes of oxygen-free Copper Bus Bar up to a maximum width of 125mm from one single copper rod (20.0mm diameter) at approx. 2.5 tonnes per hour. Other products such as Copper-Silver 'Contact' or 'Trolley' Wire are being produced on the same machine with very simple tool changes.

The machine is equipped with the new Induction Heated Tooling system for rapid pre-heat and controlled high extrusion temperatures.

For further technical information please refer to the 'Conform 550i' data sheet in the machine range and the ‘Copper Bus Bar' technical bulletin.
